Learn A Little More About Me!
Hey Guys!
I’m Sam and I thought it appropriate for my first blog post to introduce myself so you can get to know me a little more.
I will start with a few fun facts about me:
I have been married to my best friend since 2016.
I have a degree in art education from Herron School of Art and Design.
I have two chihuahuas; Sir, our 12 year old, and Aja, our 5 year old.
I have a cat, Rambo who is 12 years old.
I LOVE plants and I think I have over 60 types now, maybe more? Definitely want more…
Almost every text I send has an emoji and I have to fight the urge to place emojis in emails.
I am a wedding calligrapher in the Indianapolis area but also serve couples across the country. Planning my wedding, in 2016, was one of my FAVORITE things I have ever done! I honestly wanted to start planning weddings for brides after our wedding was over so that I could keep on planning and help other brides who may not find it so enjoyable make it an easier process for them. Well I had no clue where to start and kept up with my day job as an assistant manager at the Indianapolis Zoo’s gift shop.
Fast forward to 2017, I had surgery on my knee and was on a medical leave for the healing time and decided to make the time pass that I would learn calligraphy and how to hand letter. I fell in love! So even though I had gone back to work after surgery I had continued to hand letter quotes in my spare time as a fun hobby. In 2018 I decided to make an instagram for my lettering so that I didn’t spam up my personal account and then started to have people ask me if I would make signs for them and that is where it all started for me.
In 2019 I got asked to do some lettering for a Macy’s event (my mind was blown). I of course said yes and totally stressed that I wasn’t good enough for it and was freaking out that I had agreed to do something so big too soon. The event came along and I was so nervous but I had so much fun! I have now done on site calligraphy several times for Macy’s and each event is more fun than the last. I started getting weddings in the spring of 2019 and so that has pushed me in the direction in pursuing wedding calligraphy work.
Another joy from 2019 was that my husband and I got to celebrate four weddings, two of which I was a bridesmaid and two I got to create their wedding signage. It was a very heartwarming year for us and our friends. Now for 2020 we have 2-3 weddings that we will be invited to celebrate their marriage and one I will get to create the signage for. Creating wedding signage for those you love is such an honor that they would trust you with such a task.
Now here in 2020 I am so excited to help couples make their wedding and reception dreams come true! My goal is to make hiring a calligrapher for your day of details/wedding signage simple and an easy process that will in turn alleviate some of your wedding decor stress. Another stressor for couples that I offer is envelope addressing; it is a time consuming process, if you choose to create formal addresses there are rules to follow, and some people just dread writing all of the envelopes. I want to help remove those tasks that just don’t seem exciting for the couple (and I personally LOVE writing addresses…).
