Your Time is Valuable, Hire an Expert
You just got engaged and your time is so valuable! Planning a wedding is a full time job on top of your full time job already. DIYing everything can get overwhelming and there is no shame in letting an expert help you out.
Have you ever written out 100+ envelopes? It doesn’t seem so daunting till you start and realize it actually is a very timely process. Then once you are done writing your Save the Date envelopes you realize you have to write your invitations (there are typically 3 envelopes in a suite by the way!) and then after the wedding you will have to write Thank You’s (maybe you even have thank you’s from your engagement/ bridal parties). SO MANY ADDRESSES! You could use that time towards other parts of planning your wedding, spending time with friends and family, playing with your dogs… or whatever you enjoy doing.
Not only do calligraphers save all your time from writing envelopes, they also save your time with creating all the written decor for your wedding and reception. Once you start planning your decor you may be surprised how much is written out.
Calligraphers Have Valuable Knowledge
I don’t think I could say that enough. Calligraphers are experts in their field! They know all the etiquette and can recommend what you need for your wedding day. Do you have to go with everything they say? No of course not. Not everyone wants an “unplugged” wedding sign, you can make your wedding decor how you want or to meet your needs. But calligraphers are a great sound board for your ideas and a great person to ask for recommendations.
Calligraphers are also a great resource for following etiquette. Invitations are the the first impression for your wedding to your guests! When you follow the formal rules with your envelopes it truly makes your guests feel special to be invited to such a formal and significant event. When it comes to your invitation envelopes and suites there are some rules you have to follow. There are typically 3 envelopes with a suite; the outer envelope (address), the inner envelope (names of those invited within the household), and your RSVP envelope (for your guests to mail back your RSVP card). Each card has different rules you have to follow to meet traditional etiquette. This is something a calligrapher can help you with and a great way to show your guests what to expect for your wedding.

They Create Consistency in Your Decor
When a calligrapher creates all of your signs, escort cards, and envelopes it brings a consistency from start to finish. The same hand will create the same flow and you will not have to worry about multiple people writing out your envelopes or escort cards and it looking different from one name to the next. You also will not have to worry about if your signs have the same font, maybe you bought two printable that look very similar and then you notice the “b” in completely different from one sign to the next.
You also want your design to stay consistent from one sign to the next. Maybe they aren’t all made of the same materials but there is something that is cohesive to bring it all together and a calligrapher will make sure that happens. Maybe you have acrylic signs but want some wood touches. Maybe your venue already has a sign for the bar that is a chalkboard and you want to tie that in with your other signage that is not chalkboard. A calligrapher can help you set that up to still create an event where that is not noticeable and everything still successfully coexists.
