Top 4 Ways to Use Calligraphy in Your Wedding!

Where does Calligraphy actually fit in your wedding?

Have you thought about how much text you actually have involved in your wedding? From envelopes, invitation suites, signage (and boy can you go ham on signage!) seating charts, place cards or escort cards, “Thank You” cards, wedding hangers, bridal party custom favors, personalized champagne flutes, jean or leather jacket that say “Mrs.” or “Just Married”, and so much more! So where does calligraphy fit in your wedding?

Envelopes

Envelope addressing is something that most couples absolutely HATE doing! Totally get it, it is a long time consuming activity.

You already had to get everyone’s addresses and catalog it, now you have to write every single one! Not only once for the invitations, but don’t forget you have the Save the Dates, inner envelopes, rsvp envelope, AND Thank You cards. (Also you have engagement party and bridal party envelopes if you are involved at all with those parties, hopefully you have a mother or maid of honor that helps with that) So let’s take a tally of all the envelopes, 1,2,3…FIVE TOTAL ENVELOPES. Five (minimum) envelopes you have to write something on for each house hold.

I promise that’s a long time and to hire someone to help you out with that will relieve a lot of stress. If you want to just have someone help you with the bulk of it but not all of it that is fine too. Just don’t feel like you have to do it all on your own. DIYing your wedding is totally cool and definitely makes it unique but don’t feel any shame in asking for some help!

Seating Charts, Place Cards, & Escort Cards

Now these are three things that you get to choose from, you do not need all three. I have a blog post about these three things and the difference between them.

Now this is, again, another time consuming task that is usually rather last minute. Once you get all of the names back and know who is attending your wedding you will want to organize them into tables but then you have to tell them how to make it to that table. You can write it on one big seating chart, write out escort cards with their name and table, or place place cards at the table setting.

Keep in mind, when you are creating this list, it is not just the house hold. It is EVERY NAME of each guest that is coming. So if you have 200 guest, that is 200 names you have to write! You are towards the tail end of your wedding planning and you may have a lot of last minute touches to be dealing with so you need to decide if you have enough time to write these names out yourself or if you want to ask for help.

Wedding Signage

Wedding signage is so much fun and brings so much personality into your wedding and reception!

First things first, what signs are a necessity? Do you need a menu by the buffet so people know what they are looking at? Do you need a bar sign so guests are aware of what they have to drink? Maybe you have a snack or ice cream bar and want to let people know the flavors? Well signage is a necessity here and will help eliminate any confusion for your guests.

Heres a List of some examples of necessity signs:

  • Menu

  • Welcome (Doesn’t have to say welcome. Maybe it has your last name and est. date!)

  • Cards

  • Gifts

  • Guestbook

  • Bar/Drinks

  • Snack Bar (Popcorn, Ice Cream, Candy, Waffles, etc)

Now the fun stuff! Are you going to have games and want to label the games? Do you have a section with pictures of loved ones that will not be in attendance? Whether due to passing away, being deployed, or some other reason. Maybe you just want some fun signs to sprinkle around the reception!

Here’s some examples of some fun signs:

  • Wish You Were Here

  • Cheers!

  • Games

  • Party Accordingly

  • Love Made Us Do It

  • It was Always You

  • Sparkler send off

Custom Pieces

Custom pieces are perfect for gifts, favors, keep-sakes, and great for pictures!

Gifts and favors that are personalized are great for your guests and bridal party. It is so much fun to get something with your name on it and to know that you were truly thought of!

Your bridesmaids would totally enjoy a wine glass with their name on it. You could make mimosas in the morning and use those glasses. This is great for getting ready pictures! You could all be drinking from the glasses and get a picture of your group of girls sharing a drink, laughing, and enjoying the morning together!

You can elevate your pictures with custom pieces. Maybe you choose to have custom hangers for the dresses, wearing a jacket with something custom on the back (custom jackets for flower girls and ring bearer is super cute too), or maybe you want cute signs for the ring bearer and flower girl to carry instead of rings and flowers.

You can even get vow booklets made that have your names on them or say his and her vows. This is great for when you are standing at the altar reading your vows that you wrote for each other and not have to pull out a folded piece of paper. It also makes for a super cute keep-sake.

Custom pieces have so much thought put in them and elevate your wedding, reception, and photographs so much more!

Lay out what you need for your paper goods, wedding/reception decor, party favors, and bridal party favors and gifts. Once you have all of that laid out look at where you may want help to save time or to elevate the experience. Calligraphy is such a fun piece to add to your wedding and it is something that shouldn’t be passed up on.
