What Wedding Signs You Need for Your Wedding Day!

What Wedding Signs You Need for Your Wedding Day!

Putting together your wedding decor can be tough. What all do you need? There are so many options!

Hopefully I can help you with what you may need for your wedding signage and what you may really want to consider having!

  1. First and foremost you need a Welcome Sign!

You won’t regret having a Welcome Sign because it also makes great home decor after the wedding! Just because it is called a welcome sign does NOT mean it needs to say Welcome! There are a ton of different options of wording you can use for a welcome sign.

Here’s some examples:

  • Happily Ever After

  • Love Made Us Do It

  • No Longer Two But One, Mark 10:8

  • It was Always You

  • Better Together

  • Name (First names or new shared last name!) and Date

2. Seating Chart!

Please, Please, Please, have a seating chart! I feel like I say this so much that maybe it’s like beating a dead horse but PLEASE HAVE A SEATING CHART! There are so many benefits to a seating chart.

A. You have full control of where everyone sits!

B. You will save the person who is an introvert the anxiety of having to find an available seat.

C. No larger families will have to split up from tables already being taken and only a couple seats are available at each table.

D. No one will steal a family members seat at the table that has a clear view of the two of you (You want your parents and grandparents to sit close, they want to look at your happy faces!)

So please, take full control of seating arrangements. I know it’s not a blast organizing where everyone sits and rearranging to make everyone fit perfectly but it is truly a great idea!

3. Table Numbers

Table numbers kind of piggy back off of the seating chart. These just help your guest know exactly where to go. Then, if you want to get extra special at the table you can add some place cards. Table numbers are super fun though, they are an added element to your centerpiece designs. They also don’t need to be table “numbers”, maybe you label your tables after something significant. Maybe you and your fiancé are movie buffs and want to label your tables after movies you love. Maybe you travel a lot and want to label them after places you have been. Or maybe your are doing a floral theme to your wedding and you label each table after a flower. There are really an endless amount of options and they add some fun to your wedding. I mean, what if you have been to Greece and label a table Athens and then your guests can joke around and say they are going to Athens for the night? I mean, how fun is that?

4. Cards And Gifts

Obviously, you are going to get cards and gifts at your wedding (unless you ask guests not to or ask for them to donate in lieu of money at your wedding, then maybe this doesn’t apply to you.). So you will want a cards and gifts sign. This is just a benefit to your guests so they know where to put it immediately and don’t have to carry it around till they figure out where to take the gifts.

I have been to weddings where there was not a sign and I was one of the first guests and literally wandered around looking for a safe place to put it (I usually end up keeping the gift with me till I see other people put gifts down). You don’t want to risk a card with $50 getting placed on a table designated for the food and somehow the card gets shuffled around and accidentally not placed on the card table. Not good at all. This just helps keep everything organized for everyone involved.

5. Guestbook Sign

This is also a slightly piggy back off of the cards and gifts sign. You may have your guestbook in the same location as those and this just helps guests know you want them to sign the book or whatever you have chosen to do for your guestbook.

I have seen so many different ways to do a guestbook! You could do a polaroid guestbook, star map of the night you got married, sign a globe, etc. So many ideas and you can have your sign reflect this. The sign just helps clarify exactly what you want your guests to do!

6. Menu

Maybe you are doing paper menus or having wait staff bring out meals, then I would say this isn’t necessary. But, if you are having a buffet, I would have a way to tell the guests what is on the buffet line. Whether that be a sign at the beginning or having some sort labeling at the actual food, like a place card. You may have guests that don’t eat certain things or have dietary restrictions and this is a great way to inform them what is on the buffet line for when they are making their plates.

For example, I don’t eat pork and sometimes a pork dish may look like another meat or have gravy over it. I don’t want to have to miss out on a great beef dish or accidentally take a bite of pork because I wasn’t sure what it was. Also, it is nice to know what you are eating. What if you love what you are eating but don’t have a clue what it is called. So you have to either go home not knowing or have to ask someone that works with catering to find out so you can look up the recipe later. Menu isn’t 100% necessary but I highly recommend!

Those are the 6 major signs I think everyone should have but there is a whole bunch of signs I think are fun and add flair to the wedding or may add more direction to your guests but aren’t necessary either.

These signs include:

  • Memory Sign (Wish you Were Here, Forever in Our Hearts, etc)

  • Lawn Games

  • Bar Sign ( I would say this is a must if you don’t have an open bar or have a variety of drinks to choose from)

  • Sparkler Sign (Send off Sparkler or First Dance with Sparklers)

  • Pick a Seat Not A Side (No Sides, Just Good Vibes)

  • Sweets Bar (Waffle Bar, Ice Cream Bar, Popcorn Bar, Donut Bar, Candy Bar!)

  • Unplugged Ceremony (If this is extremely important to you that no one has their phone out, it is a must have!)

  • Mr. and Mrs. for the head table

  • Timeline (If there is a moment where guests are to go find something to do while the ceremony space is being flipped into the reception space I think this is a must!)

  • Reserved Signs (Great for ceremony or table holding)

  • Dance Floor Sign (“Don’t just Sit, Bust a Move”, “Awkward, but Enthusiastic Dancing, This Way”)

  • Blanket, Flip Flop, Sunglasses Sign (If there are little extras for your guests to help make the night more enjoyable these are fun to have)

  • Favors Sign

  • Thank You Sign (perfect for pictures if you are going to use a picture as a thank you card)

  • Directional Signs (Is the ceremony in one location while the cocktail hour is in another location and then another location for the reception? Then you may want to add some cute little signs directing your guest to where they are going)

  • So many more! You can have fun signs all over to show as much personality as you would like!
